Faith Over Fear - Team Joe Tee

My grandfather's name is Joe Lewis Franklin. He was born on November 22, 1946, in Covington, Georgia.

He left school in the fifth grade. Not because he wanted to — because his mother, his father, and his brothers and sisters needed to eat, and he was the one who went to work. He never got the chance to go back.

That never slowed him down. At twenty years old he started his own business, and he ran it for the next sixty years with his own two hands. Recycling. Concrete. Houses built from the ground up. He raised three children — Annette, Jerry, and Carol — and a host of grandchildren after that. For years he has served as a deacon at Second Shady Grove Baptist Church.

There is no counting how many people in that community he quietly helped along the way, because he never kept count himself. That's not how he was built.

Everything I know about being a man, I learned watching him. Before the NFL. Before Trench Mob. Before any of it.

Today, Granddad is fighting non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

He spent his whole life carrying other people. Now we carry him.

Faith over fear. Team Joe.
